The Seven of Hearts
...was a side project for Fabulous Clem.
I decided to create extra, whimsical strips about whatever idea came to
mind that I would post on alternate weeks. In theory, this would ease
my burden since I was going to fret less about the art quality. It
failed; I became invested, and it would have been interesting to see
what direction this project would have taken if I'd wound up making
more than four of them before shuttering Fabulous Clem.
As a teenager with tarot-adjacent sympathies, I decided that the seven
of clubs in an ordinary deck of playing cards was my "soul card," and
the seven of hearts had some other honorable designation that I've
since forgotten. After giving up on my first novel at age fifteen, my
next creative writing project was a cycle of short stories called The Seven of Hearts,
introduced and connected by rhyming poetry. I never finished that
either, and eventually decided to recycle the title for this artistic
side-spur. In theory, according to one of my logs, the theme of love was supposed to tie all of these colored pages together.
The first strip here is connected conceptually to my interactive novel,
What Is Best? The second strip is based on a recurring class of dreams
I have. The others are just me playing around with animals and life.
