The Fox's Lesson
by Thorin Tatge
(To "You Can't Hurry Love," by the Supremes.)
I was born wild
In the desert's heat.
I had no friends,
Didn't care about the wheat.
But I had a secret
That slowly grew
Until the special day
When I told it to you...
Most folk have to wait
And let time make them wise;
But when you're born a vulpine,
You quickly come to realize
That only your heart
Can be perfectly wise,
And that what is essential
Cannot be seen by your eyes!
And then you arrived
By some high Providence,
And I began to think
About matters of
Consequence!
(I realized that)
You can't hurry love
It's a hard prize to claim.
You've gotta work at it day by day. It's a game of sit and tame,
And I dearly love,
Now that you've made me tame,
How I think of your golden locks
Whenever I look at the grain!
With so many snakes
In the sand
It's hard to keep up my chin
In this burning land.
Right now the only thing
That keeps me hangin' on
Is when I think of you and watch the stars to where you've gone...
I think of how
You can't hurry love
It's a hard prize to claim.
You've gotta work at it day by day.
It's a game of sit and tame,
And I dearly love,
Now that you've made me tame,
How I think of your golden locks
Whenever I look at the grain!
No, love...don't come easy
But I keep on waiting
Extrapolating
To that red rose
You keep under glass.
Four tender thorns
To hold her fast!
I always hope that one day you'll return to me,
But I'm still glad you're tending your Responsibility,
Because you see,
You can't hurry love,
If you try it's a shame!
Best luck to your planet,
And may it ever stay the same!
Take care of your sheep,
Whom I hope has grown tame,
And please think of your little fox
Who taught you how to play this game!
You can't hurry love
It's a hard prize to claim.
You've gotta work at it day by day.
It's a game of sit and tame,
And I dearly love,
Now that you've made me tame,
How I think of your golden locks
Whenever
I look at the grain!
