Walking Lullaby

Thorin N. Tatge

As sung by Spartacus in Edge Friends

Hark, my lady, look into the distance, now…

Look ahead and tell me what you see.

Let me weave it all into a charming dream

And we’ll be back at home eventually.

I see an asphalt road with markings straight and bold

That leads to Hyperborea and back into our yard.

I see a little garter snake, lying on the line

For him, the crosswise crossing is as hard.

Hark my lady, look into the distance, now…

Squint your eyes and tell me what you see.

Let me weave it all into a charming dream

And we’ll be back at home eventually.

I see a farmer’s field with sorghum and with corn

That feeds a million families if only for a day.

I see those families’ memories played out in happy scenes

Now seeing corn and sorghum makes me gay.

Hark, my lady, look into the distance, now…

Gaze and gaze and tell me what you see.

Let me weave it all into a charming dream

And we’ll be back at home eventually.

I see the harvest moon with foggy ring around

That tells of cirrostratus clouds, forerunners of a storm.

Before the water comes it’s there I’ll find my bed

For now, at least, the air is sweet and warm.

Hark my lady, look into the distance, now…

Close your eyes and tell me what you see.

Let me weave it all into a charming dream

And we’ll be back at home eventually.

I see a perfect world with shepherd watching o’er

That strengthens us and keeps our ways from going too far wrong.

I see an endless sky all quilted up with stars

It’s there that I’ll be sleeping before long.

Hark my lady, look into the distance, now…

Trust your eyes to tell you what you see.

Let your mind’s eye slip into that charming dream

And you’ll be back at home eventually.
